Whilst our volunteer editors will do their best to ensure our events listings are as up to date and accurate as possible; with the fast pace of how things are changing, it is inevitable that some will slip through the net. If you are planning on travelling for larger events, we would recommend that you contact the venues directly to avoid disappointment. The Crunchy Frog Players return to The Headgate with another smorgasbord of classic and newly minted original comedy sketches, seasoned with a light sprinkling of songs. With all proceeds going to the Mayor of Colchester's Charities, this year's hilarious platter focuses on Politics, Religion, Food and Death...and probably sex!

Those Colchester Buskers - Headgate Fundraiser, 5th October 2024, 19:45 to 22:45 at Headgate Theatre Colchester, Chapel Street North, Colchester (18 miles)
A trio of passionate musicians generously playing this gig for free as a fundraiser for our theatre! “Those Colchester Buskers” found each other fifteen years ago at an open mic event. Since that fateful day, they have been inseparable, sharing their love of music and entertaining the vibrant streets of Colchester and the surrounding area.

Set in, and around a cake shop, everyone must decide what their heart truly wants... lemon meringue or chocolate fudge! Shakespeare's earliest comedy has echoes of the later plays, with disguise, anger, despair, transformational woods, forgiveness, clownish servants - and a dog! The ties of friendship are severely tested by jealousy, betrayal and a band of brigands. This production is set in the late 1920s, with feckless young men, feisty women and knowing servants pushing the boundaries of polite society. Anyone for tennis?

Are you retired? On your own, lonely and in need of fellowship? meet at Christian Outreach Centre, Broad Street Green Road, Great Totham, Maldon (8.5 miles)
Why not join us, a Christian based club for men and women that is open to non-Christians. Sing a hymn of your younger days, share memories and have someone to have a game of draughts, dominoes etc. There will always be someone to have a have a chat with or you could join in a singalong! Come have a tea or coffee and make new friends. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

Chelmsford Chess Club meet at North Springfield Community Association, Forsythia Close (1.2 miles)
Chelmsford Chess Club is an established and sucessful chess club with over 30 full-time members, whose standards range from beginner through to county level. Affiliated to the British Chess Federation, the club competes in the North Essex Chess League (NECL) where, this year, it's highly successful 'A' team were crowned League Champions for the 3rd successive season. In all, the club fields 4 teams in the league, providing all members with the opportunity to experience competitive chess. It also hosts an annual Club Championship as well as a time-handicapped 'Summer Tournament'.

Chelmsford Gym Club meet at Chelmsford, Rodney Way (1.4 miles)
The club started about 30 years ago and has always been based at Dovedale Sports Centre, Vicarage Road, Chelmsford. Julie Belemore, the current Head Coach, took over the club in 1992. When Julie took over the club had 20 girls, training on two badminton courts on a Saturday. We now have over 300 gymnasts training throughout the week at our purpose built centre which opened in April 2012.
We currently have 3 Essex champions: 2 silver medalists and a regional finalist and the British 2011 Veterans Champion

The vision of the Gap Youth Group is aimed at young people between the ages of 11-16. However, young people who are above this age range are welcome to take part. South Essex Gymnastics Club meet at Basildon Sporting Village, Cranes Farm Road, Basildon (9.6 miles)
We offer parent and toddler classes that are open for anybody to come with their children and structured Pre-school classes for children from the age of 2 years. We offer one hour Gymschool classes for children who are at full time school and are beginners. We also offer a slightly more advanced class that lasts for two hours. We have squad groups in all three of our disciplines; Men’s and Women’s Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics. They train from one day a week to six days a week depending on their level of ability. We have classes for adult gymnastics, freestyle and disability gymnastics. We also run fun sessions in the holidays and the gym is available at the weekends to host parties.
