Essex vs. Surrey, 16th September 2019, 11:30 at County Cricket Ground, New Writtle Street (0.5 miles)
Essex play Surrey in this Specsavers County Championship - Division One game

A Sidecar Named Despair , 17th September 2019 to 19th September 2019, 20:30 to 23:30 at Headgate Theatre, 14 Chapel Street North, Chapel Street North, Colchester (18 miles)
Take a ride up the comedy freeway with a tale of mobsters, missing gems and a mashed-up motorbike.

Dick's quiet suburban life is shattered when his brother Julian returns suddenly from The States, for "health" reasons. But his shady American "associates" have unfinished business with him, putting both their health at risk. Their dad's old bike and sidecar, which Dick has been "doing up', might come in handy as their getaway vehicle!

A black comedy with original music by Pat Whymark & Julian Harries and starring Julian and Dick Mainwaring - reprising the characters they created for Common Ground's 2013 comedy, Stuff In The Attic ("Pat Whymark's latest play is very funny indeed" East Anglian Daily Times, "Good music and plenty of well-judged comic touches" In Suffolk, "Moments of pure farce alternate with real conflict" What's on Stage). Expect "The Odd Couple" versus the Mob!

Common Ground have been bringing their distinctive brand of music theatre - with strong narrative, strong emotion and just a touch of the surreal - to venues across East Anglia, since 2008.

The Vicar of Dibley , 1st October 2019 to 5th October 2019, 20:45 to 23:45 at Headgate Theatre, 14 Chapel Street North, Chapel Street North, Colchester (18 miles)
Director David King has assembled a cast with fantastic comedy pedigree for this Headgate Theatre Production's version of this modern iconic tale.

Based quite faithfully on episodes from the first two series of The Vicar of Dibley we meet all the wonderful characters that made up the parish that Geraldine Grainger descended on.

Headgate favorites Kevin Topple (The Play What I Wrote, Waiting for Godot and many a Headgate panto) and Kim Anderson (Call Me Madam, The Pajama Game and the title role in Carmen) lead a company also containing faces old and newer to the Headgate, but who we can guarantee will raise a smile or two.

The introduction and development of the lovely characters such as Mrs Cropley, Frank Pickle and of course Alice build throughout the show and come to a hysterical conclusion, when our wardrobe department are let loose with creating the bizarre fantasy straight from Miss Tinker's mind!

We expect ticket demand to be high. With our new facilities at the theatre we have been able add an extra date to our run, so you have six performances to choose from.
