Comedy Writing Workshop with Jan Etherington, 18th May 2019, 10:00 to 16:00 at Headgate Theatre Colchester, Chapel Street North, Colchester (18 miles)
The Workshop: Jan an Award winning comedy writer, broadcaster and journalist is a regular workshop presenter for INK, a Suffolk based theatre company and registered charity, that sources, develops, and produces the best new short plays for stage, and radio, from writers with an East Anglian connection. Her most recent radio play 'Conversations from a Long Marriage' was aired on New Year's Day 2018 with Joanna Lumley and Roger Allam and has been subsequently commissioned as a BBC television series. You will see from her biography below, that this is just one of her many successful radio and TV writing successes. For the Headgate workshop, Jan will tackle the eternal triangle of character, dialogue and plot and explain how to avoid stereotypes. There will be a chance to flex your comedy muscles with scenarios, exercises and collaborations. There will be some listening, lots of talking and hopefully lots of fun!.

Why not join us, a Christian based club for men and women that is open to non-Christians. Chelmsford Chess Club meet at North Springfield Community Association, Forsythia Close (1.2 miles)
Chelmsford Chess Club is an established and sucessful chess club with over 30 full-time members, whose standards range from beginner through to county level. Affiliated to the British Chess Federation, the club competes in the North Essex Chess League (NECL) where, this year, it's highly successful 'A' team were crowned League Champions for the 3rd successive season. In all, the club fields 4 teams in the league, providing all members with the opportunity to experience competitive chess. It also hosts an annual Club Championship as well as a time-handicapped 'Summer Tournament'.

Chelmsford Gym Club meet at Chelmsford, Rodney Way (1.4 miles)
The club started about 30 years ago and has always been based at Dovedale Sports Centre, Vicarage Road, Chelmsford. Julie Belemore, the current Head Coach, took over the club in 1992. When Julie took over the club had 20 girls, training on two badminton courts on a Saturday. We now have over 300 gymnasts training throughout the week at our purpose built centre which opened in April 2012.
We currently have 3 Essex champions: 2 silver medalists and a regional finalist and the British 2011 Veterans Champion

We offer parent and toddler classes that are open for anybody to come with their children and structured Pre-school classes for children from the age of 2 years. We offer one hour Gymschool classes for children who are at full time school and are beginners. We also offer a slightly more advanced class that lasts for two hours. We have squad groups in all three of our disciplines; Men’s and Women’s Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics. They train from one day a week to six days a week depending on their level of ability. We have classes for adult gymnastics, freestyle and disability gymnastics. We also run fun sessions in the holidays and the gym is available at the weekends to host parties.
